Ancient art is beautiful, one in which today’s artist copy and “make their own” creations. They were able to create masterpieces with rocks and stones. It is truly unbelievable what ancients created with very little tools, as in today’s society.

From the Book of Kells the MadonnaChild photo is glorious. It has great alignment, proximity, and repetition in the angels’ placement and color distribution. It is a magnificent piece using all 4 C.R.A.P. principals, especially the contrasted shapes and designes surrounding the mother and child.
C.R.A.P. is found throughout all ancient manuscripts and serves as the basis for modern day art. They showed contrast in that many graphics/stories were shown, not just one. Repetition is shown through hieroglyphics and other aspects. Alignment is demonstrated through magnificent art work where everything seems to fit perfectly. Proximity is shown by their words and pictures in relation to one another being placed/grouped together.
The ancient artists used what they had to create great works of art that we enjoy today. Some are simple yet speak volumes. They taught us the C.R.A.P. method and what it means to be designers!
