Reflections on EDLD 5301- Research

This class was very informative and enlightening. I had no idea of the depth of action research. I understand why the action research project is so crucial for school/college leaders.
The blog portion of this class was great. I love the fact that this will be an on-going process so that I can communicate and get feedback with my fellow students. As we move further along with our research projects I hope to gain more comments and ideas from my peers. It is a great way to keep everyone in the loop, even the instructors have access to our blogs thus allowing them to view our progress as well as leave advice or tips.
I know this is in every class but the videos/”lectures” really help. It is great to know all that is going to occur that week; I also enjoy the conversational tips/advice given from the instructors. While it is a brief overview on video, the different format allows me to see and hear that week’s assignment.
The two books for this class were very informative. I especially enjoyed the Dana text. I rented that textbook, but now am thinking of purchasing it because it has and will be helpful throughout my action research plan. These books provide key information in a wonderful format. It is very straightforward and understandable. Much of the content has allowed me to frame my draft action research plan as well as help me when I begin my actual research paper.
The discussion boards are another key element for this class. It allows us to “mingle” with other students; I find it very interesting as all of us are very different yet united in the same field of education. The comments coming from the discussion boards are great reference tools for our projects and plans. Hearing others feedback is crucial to the shape of my action research plan. I have been thinking about my plan in a new light based on some the comments I have received from other students. I also like to hear what other students are working on- it again gives me an idea of other interests and possibly ideas for myself.
The assignments and activities have helped me further my knowledge of action research. They allow me to take what I have learned from the readings and incorporate them in real-life situations.
Another part of this class that would have helped me was the web conferences. I do not have a web camera so I do not participate. I realize I can participate without it but have chosen to not thus far. In future classes I hope to participate in these activities as they allow us to interact with our peers and instructor.
The instructional aides have also been great throughout this class. For some reason in week I uploaded a blank assignment. I was notified by the aide of this error. Needless to say, I was having a panic attack. I knew I did the work and submitted the work well ahead of the deadline. Mr. Creighton Gann was very helpful and quick in responding to my question.
Overall, this was a great class that provided me with essential information for my action research project as well as my professional development.
